Broken Wheat Upma/ Dalia Recipe

When starting solids, it is best to include foods that provide ample nutrients to the baby. Food that you decide to include in your baby’s diet should be healthy and easy to digest. When thinking about such food, broken wheat is something that first comes into mind. This superfood is filled with minerals and provides amazing health benefits to the baby which not only strengthens the baby physically but also boosts the brain. Using broken wheat one can make various tasty dishes. And in today’s article, I would be sharing with you the recipe of simple broken wheat upma.
Ingredients needed - Quantities mentioned below serves 4 people
1 Cup broken wheat
1 Small tomato
1 Grated carrot
½ Cup green pea
1 tbl Fresh curry leaves
Salt as per taste
½ tbl Black Pepper
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Jeera or cumin seeds
1tbl Oil or ghee
Water
How to make
Step 1
Keep pan on the gas stove and put oil ( you can use ghee also)
Step 2
Add jeera or cumin seeds and let it crackled
Step 3
Add turmeric powder, curry leaves and tomato and stir
Step 4
Add grated carrot and green pea and stir well. Add salt at this time and let veggies cook for a while
Step 5
Add broken wheat and black pepper. You can alter pepper quantity as per your taste. My baby likes the taste of pepper so I usually add pepper in everything.
Step 6
Mix well and let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 7
Add water. I added 3 cups of water initially and then added ½ cup more.
Step 8
Cover the pan with lid and let it cook for 5 to 8 minutes. Stir again and let it cook for another 5 to 8 minutes.
Step 9
Upma is ready. Serve with cucumber raita.
To make Raita
Ingredients needed
1 Cucumber
1 ½ Cup plain curd
1 small green chillies
Pinch of sugar
Salt as per taste
Roasted cumin powder
How to make
Step 1
Peel the skin of cucumber and grate it.
Step 2
In a bowl, take one curd and whisk.
Step 3
Add cucumber, cumin powder, green chillies, salt and sugar
Step 4
Mix well everything and it is ready to be served
And that's all. Isn’t easy and simple. Broken wheat or dalia is such a filling healthy food.
